A number of the ferries on Lake Victoria are obsolete and should be replaced
by
modern ships as soon as possible. With a view to create ideas for modern
shipping
on the lake, SOLVE has been in contact with the Royal Institute of
Technology
in Stockholm. The institute has carried out several studies of
different ships
specially designed for Lake Victoria. SOLVE believes that a
number of these ships
could be of interest for shipping companies and
shipyards in the region. Drawings
have been presented for the EABC (East
African Business Council).
SOLVE has started a cooperation with a Swedish shipyard. The shipyard
is experienced
in building ships in parts and then later assemble them again
at a local shipyard equipped with floating or dry docks, for instance in
Kisumu, Port Bell and
Mwanza.
